Dan Cohen Baptism

I was born into the Jewish faith but didn’t practice this in my parents’ home. I went to Hebrew school until the eighth grade, and learned to practice the Jewish faith for my Bar mitzvah. Then in my early 20s, I lost my connection to God. In my mid 30s, I needed God when I lost my left leg below the knee due to gangrene and diabetes. I had a lot of phantom pain and was on a significant amount of medication. Through the two months of being in the hospital and then of course rehab, I wondered if I would regain my independence. I was scared, nervous, and

anxious, but I eventually overcame my fears. I prayed to God and asked him, “are You going to help me when I need You the most?”

God revealed who He was by helping me build up my emotional stamina. Through this past year, my faith in God has grown deeper by coming to church. I have found a deep faith in the Christian church and have decided to follow in the footsteps of being a Jewish Christian. The following excerpt reveals what this means:

“Jesus was a Jewish person through and through. He had a Jewish family tree. His parents named Him Yeshua, which means “salvation” in Hebrew. He was called “rabbi” by His followers and contemporaries. He went to shul. He taught from the Hebrew Scriptures. He celebrated Hanukkah, Passover, and Sukkot. All of His first followers were Jewish. In fact, they were later called “Christians” because the Greek word Christos is a translation of the Hebrew word “Messiah.” The word Christian literally means “follower of the Messiah.””

So as a Jewish Christian, I have found faith in the Messiah.
